:: David Trenor ::
David Trenor was born in West Palm Beach, Florida November 29, 1978.  He claims there are two moments that created the man he is
today.  The first was when his parents, Donald and Maria, took him tent camping when he was a few months old.  This is where his
addiction of the outdoors began.  Throughout his youth, he traveled with his parents and older brother Scott, from Canada through the
States and all the way down to Costa Rica absorbing all the beauty and excitement one can squeeze from Mother Earth.
The second occurred in fifth grade, he was one of ten gifted students selected to assist his peers in the special needs class.  For a few
hours, each week they would help the students with their studies and hang out with the special needs kids.  He quickly learned that they
were no different from his other friends.  Everyone loved sports, movies, games, and cartoons just as he did.  It blew his little fifth grade
mind.  That amazing program put him on the path to his ultimate goal.  The idea that no matter ones ability may be, that person
deserves to enjoy life to its fullest.
Growing up in South Florida, he took advantage of the lack of seasons and played every sport he could.  He was talked into playing
Volleyball like his older brother and excelled in it by making an all-county team in his junior and senior years.  He graduated Wellington
High School and began attending the
University of Florida.  After spending a few years in the college world, he decided it was time for a
break.  He spent the next few years working at the Borders bookstore and camping whenever he could.
In May 2004, David sold all his belonging and drove out to Pocatello Idaho to become an Americorps Vista Volunteer with the
Cooperative Wilderness Handicapped Outdoor Group .  He taught the adaptive swimming, adaptive waterskiing, seated aerobics, and
weight training classes for the
HOGs.  Another large part of his job was to run the social side of the organization; people of all abilities
just looking at having a good time attended the “Hog Nights”.  From movies, potlucks, bowling, trips to Lava Hot Springs and all the way
down to Mexico, David met people whom he cherishes for the rest of his life.  People of all abilities like Cindy and Steve Deroche, Uncle
James, Shane, McKenzie, and Spencer Lenay Gilbert were living his dream.  Everyone was enjoying life no matter what the fates had
dealt him or her.
After two amazing years, he returned to Gainesville Florida in order to make his dream a reality.  He spent a year at
Brasington's Trail
Shop making connections and enjoying the Florida Rivers.  Eight months ago, he was lucky enough to get a job at the
Northwood
YMCA.  The YMCA has been supportive in his dream allowing him to participate in this trip along with other activities that benefit peoples
with disabilities such as
MS walks, conferences, and six ramps in six days program.  He currently lives with his amazingly supportive
girlfriend Elizabeth and hopes to survive this very long trip.
He still dreams that one day he will run his own Adaptive Wilderness Organization, because no matter what ability one may have that
person deserves to play.
